Problem: You get an error when you start your computer that says that the OMSCAN Service has failed to start.

There isn't a lot of information about the OMSCAN service. It seems to be related to HP OpenMail. One product that uses OpenMail is Samsung Contact.

There are a couple of ways to get rid of this problem. First, if you are a user of Samsung Contact or HP Open Mail, go to your Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall anything having to do with those applications. Reboot your PC, and you should be OK.

If you don't find anything there, the next step is to run msconfig and remove anything from the Startup or Services tabs that say OMSCAN. Consult our tutorial on msconfig.

One final solution that is dangerous, but will definitely work, is to edit your registry.

Open your registry editor and go to:

HKLM \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Services

Scroll down to the entry for OMSCAN and delete that key. If you need help, consult our tutorial on editing the Windows registry.
